May 2008 Update

Notice: EIGHT ASH GREEN CHURCH REFURBISHMENT

Eight Ash Green Church is being refurbished to provide disabled access, toilet, and a small kitchen for refreshments. We anticipate that this work will take 12 weeks. Services will therefore be held at Fordham Church until further notice. We look forward to welcoming you into the ‘new’ All Saints in the Autumn!

I just don’t know what to say! My friend has asked me for advice about moving to Cheshire and I don’t know what to suggest.

I just don’t know what to do! I would like to give some money to charity. But I just don’t know which is a good one to give to.

I just can’t decide! Should I put my legacy into a pension pot. Or should I trade in my car for the new model.

Some decisions are based on facts like whether I put petrol or diesel in my car. Some decisions are based on moral principles like whether or not I steal a jar of coffee from the supermarket. But other decisions are not based on either facts or moral principles. They require insight, judgment, shrewdness.

It is for these decisions that the Bible says a person needs ‘Wisdom’. The Biblical book of ‘Proverbs’ is all about Wisdom and we will be looking at some of its teaching in church in May and June.

As one writer says, ‘it is a book that seldom takes the reader to church’. It takes the reader to the ancient equivalent of the office, Tesco, the family reunion, the wedding. The places where we spend most of our lives.

Its claims for its gains are immense: ‘Happy is the person who finds wisdom … nothing you desire can compare with her’. You can’t get a much bigger boast than that! Why not come along to church and find out what this ancient wisdom has to say to modern life.
